About Us

Our Story

They say performers tend to grativate towards each other. This was certainly true for Laura and Catherine when Laura walked in the front door of one of Catherine’s dance fitness classes. There was an instant bond, and many nights of talking, dancing, and good times ensued. When Laura went to pursue a dance contract in China, the two kept in touch, looking forward to their next dance session together. Fast forward to February 2020, amidst the unraveling of the pandemic, Laura returned early to New Zealand, back to her family and friends, and inevitably back to Catherine’s dance fitness. The feeling was bittersweet; it was awesome to have Laura safe and sound, back in New Zealand, but the uncertainty of a future in professional dance in the middle of a pandemic was looming. The two got talking about how amazing it would be to harness both of their professional experiences and turn it into something accessible for all adults wanting to give dancing a go. And Pivot Dance Fitness was born.

Catherine

"There's always time for a box step"

Catherine fell in love with dancing at the age of 3 and danced in a number of disciplines until she was 17. After a few years break, and two children later, she got back into dancing, taking up adult ballet classes, and went on to become a group fitness instructor in 2011. She has since gone on to instruct many disciplines of fitness, including step aerobics, pump, combat dance, HIIT, and of course, dance fitness. Dance has always been her first love, and this has inspired her to share her dancing and fitness instructing experience with her community. Catherine has now completed her Skills Active certification in freestyle group fitness which is recognised internationally, allows her to instruct across a range of disciplines, and offer the most up to date information from sport and exercise science. Although Catherine is a bit of a jack-of-all-trades in the instructing department, her passion lies with anything dance-fitness, and she aims to incorporate a number of dance and fitness styles into her routines and classes.
